Customized Web Development vs. Template Solutions

When you buy something, you should own it. At least, that’s the way we feel. It’s unfortunate, but we still see a lot of companies that are locked into ridiculous monthly fees just to pay for routine upkeep of their website. Paying each month for simple changes to dates, images or page copy.

Changing website content used to mean that someone actually manipulated HTML code for the site changes to occur. Not anymore. Today, a standard feature on most websites is the CMS, or content management system. A CMS provides a point-and-click interface from which you can instantly add or modify content on your company website. Accessible from any web connection, a CMS lets you securely administer your website – for complete site ownership with no monthly maintenance fees.

Baytech has been developing websites with advanced CMS functionality since 2001. Named Silicon Valley’s top web design firm, Baytech develops websites using custom web applications that we’ve built to accomplish specific business needs (like a shopping cart or online payment system). Built as interchangeable modules, we can assemble a “custom” website that meets the specific needs of your business. And our web development modules all tie back into our Advanced CMS. So you get complete control of your custom website – without paying a custom development price or monthly maintenance fee.

Baytech believes you should own what you buy. That’s why we even provide you the complete source code for your custom web solution. We don’t even require that you host through our company – though you’d likely find that Baytech has aligned itself with strategic partners offering very competitive hosting rates. Still, it doesn’t matter; it’s your site, host it wherever you like. So quit paying monthly maintenance charges for an out-of-date website that you already paid for years ago. Call or email Baytech today to learn more about our Advanced CMS and custom web development capabilities.

  1. Thanks for the explanation about CMS. We’re considering a new site design and I’ve heard the term thrown about, but I didn’t quite understand what it meant to my business. Or why I should care. I’m not a very technical person, how long does it take to get up to speed?

    Comment by robpark007 — August 26, 2009 @ 10:34 am

  2. i’ve heard about open source websites that offer what sounds a lot like your advenaced cms. and open source is free. why would i pay for a new site when the pieces are there for free and i could just do it myself.

    Comment by web_innovation21 — August 26, 2009 @ 2:35 pm

  3. Hi robpark007.
Glad our little tirade helped you! Getting up-to-speed with a CMS depends on the site functionality that we assemble. A basic website’s CMS probably wouldn’t take more than a coupe hours of training, while a complex site with more custom web applications would require more. But all of Baytech’s web development projects are scoped with training time. So before we turn the site over to you, you’d receive dedicated training from one of our specialists.

    Hi web_innovation 21.
Thanks for the comment. You’re absolutely right. There are some excellent open source communities across the web that bring together some great web development minds to create some great websites. And, yes, many of these open source projects offer free modules. However, you’d also find that many of the best components available in the open source community are actually customized solutions that you would need to pay to license. Regarding you question: why pay when you can do it yourself? Well, we don’t have a real good answer. If you feel it’s economically more sound for you to learn how to build a nicely design custom website that offers exceptional functionality, is search engine optimized, built with a solid database architecture, and compatible with different web browsers; then, we wish you all the best. Please do come back and let us know when your project is finished.

    Cheers, Baytech Marketing Team

  4. What about maintenance and hosting thats wrapped together in one package? Is that worth it? My company pays about 50 percent more each month to get maintenance included with our hosting. We have to submit change requests to them and wait about 5-days for changes to happen, but I imagine a new website would actually cost a lot more!

    Comment by Phil Ryker — August 27, 2009 @ 2:45 pm

  5. Hi Phil,
Thanks for your question. It really depends on your vendor and the total monthly fee – including the maintenance. A 2-day turnaround on changes is actually quite good. We know many companies have to wait up to 5 days before their provider can even get to their request. We’d love to chat with you more about costs. Maybe we could take a look at your site so we can provide more detail about whether or not a new website would “cost a lot more.” Give us a call at 866-913-9327.

    Best, Baytech Marketing Team

SEO Strategies and best practice

The amount of information on the web today is staggering, and getting your website noticed is only getting more difficult. Over a year ago, Google indexed its one trillionth unique URL – that’s 1,000,000,000,000 pages of content. And there’s even more. Google admits that it’s impossible for them to index every single page of web content.

“So how do I drive more traffic to my website?” This is a common question we get at Baytech. Unfortunately, there’s no silver bullet when it comes to search engine optimization (SEO). Each search engine uses different algorithms to determine content relevancy, and each industry’s top-targeted keywords have become very competitive—and expensive, if you’re bidding for them through PPC ad placements.

There are, however, a number of best practice SEO strategies and tactics that Baytech employs when we build client websites. These tactics include metadata tagging, search engine friendly URLs and creating optimized, relevant content. These are well known strategies and, of course, we integrate other SEO best practices into our web development projects—just give a call to discuss.

No matter your business though, from a large e-commerce site to a small niche player, most company’s can improve their organic SEO rankings by retaining a website development company that’s up-to-date on the latest SEO best practices.

Baytech is constantly reviewing the latest trends on SEO and refining our processes to improve our results. We won’t guarantee top site ranking like some self-proclaimed SEO experts might, but our track record speaks for itself, and our SEO strategies and best practices deliver results.

The next time your company is considering web development or custom web application work, be sure that SEO strategy is part of the scoped project. Feel free to call or email Baytech today to discuss your project and to learn how we can help generate SEO results.

  1. My company used an “SEO specialist” that guaranteed results. We paid a premium price but saw little movement in our organic search results. Definitely feel like we were sold “snake oil.” Be wary of anyone who guarantees SEO performance!

    Comment by Steven Ishikawa — August 26, 2009 @ 8:46 am

  2. SEO helps add potential customers and the number of quality leads to your website as well. In fact, most organizations can adopt Internet marketing and advertising strategies to generate better business.

    Comment by Link Building Services — September 10, 2009 @ 4:47 am

  3. The process of SEO is not easy to tackle, largely because so many pieces of a site factor into the final results. Promoting a site that writers on the web are unlikely to link to is as deadly as creating a fantastic website no one will see. SEO is also a long-term process, both in application and results - those who expect quick rankings after completing a few suggestions in this guide will be deeply dissapointed. Search engines can often be frustratingly slow to respond to improvements that will eventually garner significant boosts in traffic.

Save Time and Measure Results with a Robust CMS

Even though the internet is still relatively new, people expect a lot from companies they do business with on the web. For example, how is your opinion of a company affected when you visit their site and it’s down, or you get a 404-error after clicking a link?

Stuff happens. We know that, and we’re not immune to it. But there are some tools out there that can help your company minimize downtime while streamlining productivity. We’re talking about a website CMS, or content management system. A CMS provides a point-and-click interface to your website for dynamic content creation without worrying about “breaking code.”

The web development professionals at Baytech Webs have created an Advanced CMS which allows you to manage your website content with an easy-to-use interface designed to save you time and money. The content of our web development or custom web application projects can be edited and easily managed using our Advanced CMS.

Our CMS lets you do much more than just add, modify and delete content. We’ve built-in solutions that also let you measure and quantify your web marketing ROI. Baytech Webs robust CMS can even help you with digital content distribution, newsletter delivery and email marketing. Using a single interface, accessible from any web connection, you can securely manage content, broadcast your marketing newsletters and email campaigns, and track marketing ROI details like page views, open rates and click-through rates (CTR).

So quit paying someone to add a page to your website, change copy and images on an existing page, or to delete an old page – do it yourself with Baytech Webs Advanced CMS. Email or give us a call today to learn more about how you can minimize website downtime and eliminate maintenance fees while improving your web marketing measurement with our Advanced CMS.

  1. What does your CMS look like? I know html, but don’t have time or interest in wading through code to edit my site. Thanks.

    Comment by Hassad Abdul — August 26, 2009 @ 11:02 am

  2. No messing with code required. Our CMS basically looks like a well-designed web page and offers access to discreet sections and pages on your website. So you can quickly pull up content and use an editor (much like a word processing program) to change and save content. Changes you make are reflected on your site as soon as you save the new content. We’ve actually built a full demo site of our CMS that lets you click around and get a feel for what we offer. Just give us a call and we’ll set you up with the login information.

  3. I’m pretty happy with the design and brand of my website but would like to have a CMS added to it. Is it possible to just plug in your CMS to my existing design?

    Comment by Richard Thornton — August 26, 2009 @ 4:17 pm

  4. This is a tough question. It’s possible but, honestly, it wouldn’t be like flicking a switch. Typically, we build client sites around the central CMS – so everything gets mapped and integrated into the CMS from the start. However, depending on your site, it’s possible that our web development team could bridge the existing design onto a new site that uses our CMS system. We’ll definitely need more detail though to provide an accurate answer. Please give us a call or email for a consultation, and thanks for your comment!

Web Monetization and Viral Marketing Strategies

Converting website traffic to sales is a game of numbers. If your message reaches X number of web users and Y of those users visit your website for more information, then Z equals the number of visitors who purchase your product or service and contribute to your bottom line. By increasing the reach of your message, you will also increase traffic to your site and, in turn, increase your company’s sales conversions.

At Baytech Web Design, our goal is to not only increase the overall reach of your message, but to do so in the most targeted and cost effective way. We employ a number of Web 2.0 and social networking tactics that can improve the viral marketing reach of your message to targeted audiences. But creating a legitimate “buzz” about your company or products on social networking sites requires timing, targeted keywords and brand consistency. If social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are instruments in a marketing orchestra, then Baytech Web Design’s guerrilla marketing experts are the conductors who turn those instruments into a symphony of sales.

Our dedicated team of web monetization experts can help convert more of your web traffic to sales by targeting specific audiences and creating a “hook” that drives them to your company website. Using SEO and social networking strategies, we can deliver more traffic to your site, improve your organic SEO performance and help you build and manage your online brand.

Nearly two billion people worldwide use the web today. The numbers are there for web monetization, but you need to deliver targeted messages through a concerted marketing effort. Let Baytech Web Design’s marketing professionals help you optimize your online marketing plan to enhance your reach, traffic and, most importantly, sales conversions. Call or email us today to discuss your viral marketing and social networking needs.

Expand Marketing Reach with a Website

You’ve probably heard the expression, “the eyes are the window to the soul.” Well, if that’s the case, then the internet provides your company access to the world’s largest window store. Where else can you place a single message that has the potential to reach more than a billion people?

As a competitive business, your marketing goal is to grow sales by cost-effectively placing messages in the channels most likely to be viewed by your target demographic(s).

As the popularity of the internet and Web 2.0 have grown, the tools for web marketing have also become more robust and efficient. Strategies exist that can help sift your company’s message to the top of search listings; make CPC campaigns and ad placements are more targeted; and improve web marketing ROI.

So if you don’t already have a website, obviously, you need one. Baytech Web Design offers full-service design and development of custom web solutions to embody your company’s mission and goals. And if you already have a website, Baytech Web Design’s experienced web marketing professionals can help refine and expand your use of the web to improve site visibility and page views for your products or services. Marketing is a game of numbers; when more eyes land on your message, more sales are likely to be converted.

Effective web marketing doesn’t require a Super Bowl advertising budget either. We can help define your target audience on the web and work with you to create and deliver messages in the channels that are most likely to reach your audience. Web marketing can build your online brand, improve website visibility and, most importantly, contribute to your bottom line.

Get your marketing message delivered to more windows on the web. Call or email Baytech Web Design today to discuss how targeted web marketing can help.

  1. The windows to the soul analogy works good for this concept. Better watch out though because Microsoft might think you’re talking about them! ;-) Can you add more about channels on the web? Becuase I consider the web as a whole a single marketing channel.

    Comment by internetnerd4u — August 19, 2009 @ 7:58 am

  2. Sure thing. You’re right; the web might be considered a single channel within a larger marketing mix, but when you start delving into web marketing, you see that multiple channels exist that deliver your message to different audiences in different ways. For instance; paid ad placements vs. video content vs. social networks vs. corporate website. In order to accurately measure web marketing ROI, you need to break the larger web channel into sub-channels so you can see what’s working and why. Once you understand the web channels, you can refine your message or delivery method to improve the resulting “success” metric – whether that’s CPC, page views, leads or converted sales.

  3. So we know that web marketing doesn’t require a Super Bowl budget. We’ve been running our own CPC campaigns using Google and get pretty good results on our own. What does Baytech charge for web marketing and how do you show results?

    Comment by Clarissa Brown — August 21, 2009 @ 1:12 pm

  4. How does working with Baytech impact your marketing budget, and is it worth it. Straight to the point. We like that. But, unfortunately, there’s no blanket answer. Cost and web marketing ROI depends on a number of factors that we discuss in detail with each client. All web marketing plans and results metrics are defined and agreed upon before we start work. Some items that we factor into our project scope include the size of your target demographic(s), whether you want organic site visibility vs. paid ad placements, your site’s current benchmark data, and preferred content delivery model (web copy, video, display ads, etc.). We’d be happy to discuss our costs and ROI with you in greater detail. Just give us a call.

    Comment by Baytech's Blogger — August 21, 2009 @ 6:27 pm

  5. What’s your opinion about the best way to deliver marketing on the web? We were told that everyone needed to have video content on their web site and paid a lot to have a product video produced. Compared to our other pages we don’t see very many people looking at the video.

    Comment by website.fanatic — August 25, 2009 @ 10:49 am

  6. The best way to deliver marketing depends entirely on the audience. Pretty generic answer, right. But it’s absolutely true. Younger audiences tend to expect more interaction and video content, while older demographics might prefer no-nonsense text web pages. Regardless, once the audience is defined, we usually recommend more than one web marketing channel to maximize your results. We build a marketing matrix for each client that takes into consideration their products/services, target demographic(s), budget and success metrics. Some clients gauge success as site visibility and page views, while others look to sales leads and conversions. The bottom line is that successful web marketing requires analysis, multiple delivery channels, fine-tuning, and time.
