The Dirt on Organic SEO

Organic or Natural? No, it’s not about getting elbows deep in dirt; however, organic SEO is about a planting and growing process in order to get your site listed in search engines.   Expect that if you plan to invest time today in sowing your seeds of effort, it may take weeks, even up to months for that seed to sprout. As patience is a virtue, begin by weekly maintaining whatever you can handle. Some SEO techniques that can help your site get noticed are through search engine submissions, web/blog/article directories and social book marking sites. If you submit to one of each of the aforementioned suggestions, then your divided efforts will be even stronger than a bulk of work on one day of the week.

Submitting your sites on various article directories or social booking marking sites is not a one-time deal. It is important to set aside some time following up and focusing on what is working best with your site. If you ensure that your working links are linked with higher page ranked sites, your site will also rank higher and therefore you will be moving ever closer to the front page of a search engine.

It will also be a good idea to check if all of your back links are working properly. As back-linking is strongly upheld by good SEO practices, liberally submit your links to other sites of higher ranking and lower ranking on the alexia scale.

In all, don’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves and get organic!

Why Hiring a SEM Expert Might be a Good Idea

But that’s if you don’t plan on spending a lot of time, money, and staffing. Search marketing, or utilizing paid search campaigns actually comes down to a science and it’s not easy as pie. Investing in somebody who has successfully managed successful, effective and profitable paid search campaigns just might be worth the pursuit.

Consider the following four reasons why you should try to consult an SEM expert:

  1. The Big Picture: If you are just learning Google Adwords, the time you are putting into understanding it is time and money lost. Chances are, the learning curve is steep, therefore expensive. In many cases, people have lost thousands of dollars just figuring out what it is that they are doing wrong.
  2. Time is Money: A general understanding of paid search campaigns is that they require habitual attention. The more competitive the industry your business is in, the more tending your campaign needs. On average, would it be affordable and logical to allocate at least five hours of your week? As a mental note, the more time you spend trying to understand how to successfully manage your paid search campaign, the less time you have to grow your business.
  3. Stiff Competition: Chances are, you will be going against a lot of professionals who are making their profitable search campaigns your stiffest competition.
  4. Quality score: The keyword quality score on a scale of one to ten is the performance metrics of your keywords. If you know how to properly manage your PPC account, then poor scores that impact the effectiveness of your campaign should not be a problem.

With that said, let these reasons be food for thought on what course you and your business should take. Trial and error or professional guidance?

Contextual ads are a great way to target certain prospects because it shows up on websites with keywords searched by users with a particular interest. However, writing a simple and effective ad copy is one thing, but keeping in mind the quality and usability of your landing page is another.

Here’s a checklist of things to keep in mind with your contextual ads along with its landing pages:

The Adcopy:

-          Simple URLs (i.e. Baytechwebs.com)

-          Capitalized sentences vs. Non-capitalized sentences

-          Succinct, to the point, with a strong call to action

-          Simplicity

-          Do you know the target of your ad, and do your visitors know?

The Landing Page:

-          Does it look clean, user-friendly, and uncluttered?

-          How’s the image quality?

-          Is the information about your service/offer detailed or clear?

-          Are all the important points located on the top of the landing page?

-          Short forms with labeled required fields

-          No Pop-ups and pop-unders

-          Bullet points for readers to quickly scan information

-          Any testimonials to show a good track record?

Out With the Old, In With the New Facebook

Filed under: Social MarketingBaytechWebDesign's Blogger @ 4:20 pm

The days when Facebook made students feel exclusive and privileged for privacy amongst their communities are long over. As people are now becoming more interconnected, down comes all the wild high school and college pictures that were meant between friends only. As we watched Facebook evolve over the years, in came the general public as doors were flung wide open to everybody and their mothers.

Yesterday marked one of the most anticipated days, quite possibly in the history of Facebook. The company has announced that they will be allowing users’ statuses, photos and videos to be made publicly visible at large by default. Privacy was once the trademark of Facebook and they succeeded in capturing the attention of users mainly because they steered clear from the clutter and confusion of Myspace characteristics. But as Facebook began adding more and more to their simple purpose of connecting people, views on the ever-changing Facebook are about to flip. On contrary to some possible backlash, this move could lead to some new developments in the world of social media from a web innovator’s standpoint.

Is Your Website “Crawlable?”

Search engines spiders are programs that search engines will utilize to find,  visit or re-visit content in webpages, files, images, or even videos. If your website is “crawlable,” then the search engine spider is able to discover, identify, and obtain information about the links and content within your site. This is why linking is an essential part that makes your page SEO and search engine friendly because if a spider is not able to follow a link, then your landing page may not even exist in the search engine’s database. Therefore, if your destination page is not included in its database, it maybe not even be present in  any search results.

Figuring out whether your website is spider-friendly is really about the accessibility of the link. Flash files are frequently used for navigation; As a result, links are not recognized since spiders do not typically crawl through flash files. To solve this and still have the dynamic functionality found in Flash, navigation can be done with SEO friendly CSS code. And again, with Javascript or Ajax menus, a bot may have the same difficulty reading those links.

More pointers to keep in mind, is to ensure a copious amount of authoritative links on your website. They should all connect to relevant and important information, making it easy for spiders to crawl and therefore influence rankings. Other ways to counter common issues that deter crawlability is to create alternative navigations that utilize text links in the footer. Include HTML site maps of a considerable amount of text links. And speaking of site maps, you can also provide an XML site map list to search engines of all the URLs you’d like spiders to read on your site.

If you are in the process of developing a website, keep in mind that while the site architecture should be functional , the ease of site maintenance for search engines should also just be as significant. Seeking some advice from SEO consultants could save you a lot of trouble, not to mention expenses down the road.

Sharing is Caring on FriendFeed

Filed under: Social MarketingBaytechWebDesign's Blogger @ 10:07 pm

You expected it, they built it! Friendfeed, a social bulletin service now allows users to file share. Keeping in mind ease in user-friendliness, Friendfeed fanatics need only to click on the “Files” link under the post box, select and upload files. In addition, these files can also be sent as attachments on emails sent to FriendFeed. Dan Hsiao, an employee of Friendfeed exclaims the success in having used this feature internally within the company and has found it “extremely useful.”

Although Friendfeed has met the demand for this brand spanking new feature, there is unfortunately the ultimate question they may need to first address: max capacity on upload size, not to mention  a cancel button during upload.

Happy Feeding.

Get Noticed in Your Email Campaigns

Filed under: Email MarketingBaytechWebDesign's Blogger @ 10:20 pm

It’s one thing to have your recipients reading your email campaigns, but it’s another thing if they take action after reading your articles. To make them go that extra mile, go an extra ten and ensure the following actions to get more clicks:

1.       Provide Links! Link your call to actions within your articles- you’ll find that readers are more likely to respond to more links. Also, be sure to link your headlines as well as images. Typically, the consumer has been conditioned to assume that by clicking on the image, it will take them somewhere. Therefore, make it link to your product, service, or cause!

2.       Utilize anchor tags and a table of contents at the top of your email so that people can easily access the material they want to see.

3.       Keep your readers curious by directing the other half of your article in your email to a link that has the other half. On the directing page, it can lead to offers that are relative to the content in your email.

4.       Offer a gift- you can choose to disclose it only if they click on the link you want to direct traffic to.

5.       Emphasize that time is of the essence and that a linked expiration date to your offer expresses the value of a deal.

6.       Show results with videos and testimonies if you have them. Again, link them.

7.       Personalize your links by including your recipients’ names in the emails.

Bottom line, linking is crucial part of email marketing. If it weren’t for linking, where would the call to action be? Where is the encouragement for your prospects to explore your business?

Happy Linking,

Stephanie

  2. 1. Make sure the subject is short and engaging
    2. Make sure the layout needs to be compatible with the current outlook setting. Usually, the outlook reading pane is on the top, bottom or right. Therefore, the newsletter design needs to fit for the one-page screen if users set up the reading pane on the right.
    3. Do not overuse the image. Design the newsletter with mostly text (2/3)
    4. Have good call-to-action
    5. Build good links back to your main selling products or services
Hope this help you increase your conversion!

Does Social Media Go Hand in Hand with Search Marketing?

Filed under: Social MarketingBaytechWebDesign's Blogger @ 10:19 pm

Social media and search marketing at the same time are complementary and are also two very distinct channels. Generating conversations about hot topics through social media marketing can directly affect the queries used in search. This is comparable to the way advertising and public relations through media coverage drive traffic and attention.

The whole purpose of the social web is to spread discussion so that it pushes people to search for more information. The bait is set by providing useful information about a certain idea and when that buzz catches on fire and provokes a large volume of search, the fishing line is reeled in.

Marketers can also create content in their social marketing efforts to rank in search results and by optimizing for keywords, they allow their product or name to take up several positions of that same search query. So with optimization, discussion easily travels throughout social communities. A vast majority of users are inclined and empowered to link content through blogging or writing their own content. When standard searches pull up the optimized content, that’s when social media and social marketing complement one another.
